The asymmetrical mantel display has been trending for a few years, those garlands that are off center and swag to the left or right. This year I created an asymmetrical garland in my living room and I love the way it turned out.
Mine is a combination of mixed real garland (fir and juniper) and faux pine garland that I can reuse, with eucalyptus added for texture and scent. Mini string lights and gold berries complete the look. I share a few more up close shots on Instagram.
Asymmetrical garlands take more time to install than symmetrical ones. It requires one to constantly tweak the arrangement until balance is achieved. Where garland is heavier to one side, decor like stockings or candlesticks balances the weight.
Below are a few more examples of mantels with asymmetrical garlands swagged to the left or right to inspire.
