How to Make a Dollar Tree Door Swag from Mini Trees: Step-by-Step Tutorial

As always, you can work with what you can find at your local store! In addition to the mini tree base for the swag, you’ll need a large center bow, some color and texture for the front (we used berries of 3 kinds) and a larger greenery element for the back (we used pine picks).

DIY Christmas Swag Instructions

Step 1: Turn the Mini Trees into a Swag

Open up the boxes of the white Christmas trees and remove the bases. Discard the bases, as they won’t be needed for this project. Lay the trees so the ends overlap each other.

Secure the tree trunks together with a generous amount of hot glue and some twine or floral wire. Tie the twine tightly and leave some extra twine to loop and hang the swag.

Step 2: Add the Bow

Use the twist tie on the back of the bow to secure it to the center of where the trees meet, tying it back tightly.

Step 3: Add Berry Clusters

Use wire cutters or scissors to clip off sections of the gold berries. Add them to either side of the bow, tucking them under a bit and securing them with hot glue.

If the glitter is falling off your berry picks, paint them with a quick coat of matching spray paint before attaching them.

Step 4: Add Pine Picks

Lay the pine picks in an X shape and secure them to the *backside* of the trees with hot glue, allowing them to stick out a bit.

Step 5: Add Berries

Add the red berries with hot glue randomly around the gold berries on both sides. I used the entire bag.

Step 6: (Optional) Add Vase Filler

Finally, enhance the swag by incorporating some of the silver pieces of the vase filler, adding an extra pop of color and additional texture.
