The victim was laying (on the) side of the road, and what appeared to be the woman (who was) the driver was pretty distraught and emotional. The car was off to the side. You could see the damage to the vehicle from the incident,” Jason Wagler said.Wagler is a contractor who was on U.S. Steel property nearby when he heard from truckers just arriving at the Edgar Thomson plant that there was a man down in the street and not moving. He went to see if he could offer assistance, but responders had already arrived.County police homicide and collision reconstruction units were called to the scene to assist.It was about 8:15 a.m. when 911 got the call about a vehicle hitting a pedestrian on Braddock Avenue near O’Connell Boulevard.The 75-year-old victim was transported in critical condition and was pronounced dead at the hospital. County police say the preliminary investigation shows the car was traveling north when it left the roadway and hit the victim.Wagler told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4, “There is no sidewalk on the side of the street that the victim was on. The side where the car was is basically used for parking for tractors and trailers.” “It’s just sad, you know, when when you see something like, that come across that, especially early in the morning,” Wagler said. “It’s just tough to see.”Police confirmed the driver did stop and remained on the scene.He described the damage to the car that hit the pedestrian.”The sunroof and the moon roof, there was a lot of damage, almost like it collapsed. You could see where the impact from the head caused the windshield to break right in front of the driver’s side window. The side view mirror was dangling and hanging off, and there was a lot of damage to the body on the right-hand side of the door, of the driver’s side of the vehicle,” Wagler said.Anyone with information is asked to call the county police tip line at 833-ALL-TIPS.
