JERSEY CITY, NJ – On Wednesday, November 22nd, Bill O’Dea was endorsed by Teamsters Local 560 and the Joint Council 73 Executive Board, his first union endorsement in the race for Jersey City Mayor.
Nick Jayme, Business Agent and Political Organizer of Teamsters Local 560 and Lou Rodriguez, Secretary/Treasurer of Teamster Local 560 were present, as well as Teamster union members who are residents of Jersey City.
“Bill has answered our calls when we needed him, when we had issues with contractors when they tried to circumvent agreements,” said Nick Jayme. “He was instrumental in establishing the Teamster Local 560 CDL (Commercial Driver License) Apprenticeship program. This is the man that helped us. The men and women of Local 560 know that we need a mayor who will support working people. I have worked with Bill O’Dea for many years as a Commissioner. We’re proud to be the first union to endorse Bill O’Dea for Mayor and will work hard to ensure this campaign succeeds,” said Nick Jayme.
“It’s an honor to have your support,” said O’Dea to the members. “(As mayor) I will always make sure that Project Labor Agreements are fully enforced. I also want to note that when we started Project Impact in 2014, one of the first unions that stepped up to provide opportunities for local minorities and women in Jersey City to get into the union was Teamsters Local 560. If you’re a member of Teamsters 560, you don’t have a job, you have a career – a career for the rest of your life, and you’re going to be able to raise a family. I look forward, as mayor, to be able to expand on programs to create more opportunities.”
