When Chester County native Ted Pease was getting ready to retire from the Navy after a 10-year career, he wasn’t exactly sure what his next career would be.
One thing he did know? He wanted his next career to be “a good service to the community, and I wanted it to be people-based,” Pease said in a recent interview.
He also knew that a key component of the new company would be a commitment to working with the Veterans Affairs administration and serving veterans.
The 34-year-old Pease recently took ownership of Right at Home Main Line, an in-home senior care business that serves all of Delaware County and portions of Montgomery and Chester counties, “from West Chester to the border of Delaware, and all the way through the main line to King of Prussia and Plymouth Meeting.”
Pease completed his purchase of the franchise on June 12. The franchise had been known as Right at Home Delaware County, and Pease said the previous owners had focused their efforts in that county — a focus he is expanding.
“I rebranded it as Right at Home Main Line, because I wanted to make sure we could serve not just Delaware County but serve a much larger territory in southeastern Pennsylvania,” he said. “I want to focus on serving the broader region and building out our broader region.”
What does Right at Home Main Line do?
Right at Home Main Line provides in-home direct care for seniors and adults with disabilities over the age of 18.
“We can help with light housekeeping, laundry, meal prep, companionship, showering — some important parts of life where seniors can’t complete the tasks,” Pease said.
Right at Home caregivers are trained to assist with a variety of needs in a variety of settings, including at home or in an independent or assisted living community, according to information on Right at Home’s website.
Pease said his company has about 70 caregivers. He requires they be certified nursing assistants, home health aides or have at least one-year of experience in a facility.
Since taking over the franchise, Pease said things have been going well — a learning journey, he said, “but everything I expected.”
Committed to veterans
Pease said the main focus of Right at Home Main Line is to be the premier direct caregiving company in the area, and he is focused on hiring and retaining quality caregivers.
At the same time, he is ensuring he’s embracing his veteran status, adding that he plans to partner with attorneys, estate planners and financial planners “to make sure we can offer a comprehensive solution for vets and others in the area.”
Right at Home Main Line is fully accredited and working with the VA.
“I want to walk in and shake the hand of a vet or surviving spouse of a vet and say ‘I have walked in your shoes.’ There is a connection between service members and their families that can’t be replicated elsewhere,” Pease said.
The journey to franchise owner
Pease attended Malvern Prep, where he said he had done Christian service his whole life, followed by community service while he served in the military.
“I found this as a great fit to continue to serve where I grew up,” he said.
He graduated from Penn State in 2012 with degrees in economics and Spanish. He participated in a collegiate military program and after graduation began his career with the Navy. Following officer candidate school in Rhode Island, Pease was based in Jacksonville, Fla., serving as a Surface Warfare Officer.
In 2016 Pease was sent to San Diego, where he served for five years. While there, he pursued an entrepreneurial MBA at Cal State San Diego.
He left active duty in 2021 but remains actively involved in the reserves. That same year Pease, his wife Diana and two children moved back to Pennsylvania.
“We were ready to move back. We wanted to be by our family to have that support network,” he said. Pease, whose mother lives in West Chester, has 30 cousins as well as a twin sister who lives in Berwyn.
Pease said finding a civilian career was the most difficult thing he ever did.
He began making connections in the Greater Philadelphia Veteran’s Network as he transitioned from active duty. He worked for a large insurance company for two years before starting to explore owning his own business. It was through that network that Pease found out the Right at Home franchise was for sale.
“We are a company that wants to provide and be a community resource. We want to make sure we’re providing, first and foremost, top-quality care and we want to also be the company you turn to if you need help with other things,” Pease said. “We’re here to serve, and we’re here to serve compassionately.”
Right at Home Main Line’s office is currently located in Media, but will be relocating to Newtown Square in December. For more information about Right at Home Main Line visit Homecaremainline.com, call 610-566-6650, or email info@homecaremainline.com. The company is also hiring.
