(RED BANK, NJ) — Grammy Award winner Tom Waits recorded over 30 groundbreaking albums, filled with theatrical tales of bungled romance, late-night diners, and early- morning cold fronts. Pat Guadagno and a stellar lineup of artists performed some of the musical gems from Tom’s catalog in a tribute entitled, “The Heart of Saturday Night – The Brilliance of Tom Waits” on November 4, 2023 at The Vogel in Red Bank. Photographer John Posada was on hand to take photos.
Special guests included Shady Street Showman Ryan Gregg, Hip Hop, Jazz & Blues Powerhouse Deseree Spinks, and Alternative Folk Award winner Emily Grove. They all joined Guadagno and his band Small Change to bring Tom’s songs to life at The Vogel.
Few artists can interpret a song and make it their own like Pat Guadagno. He’s been filling venues from concert halls to the local bar for decades. As the NY Times once said, he provides “A musical journey… always an unpredictable ride…”
The Self-Proclaimed Saloon Singer found his way out from under the TV, in the corner, behind the pool table, into the international spotlight when his music was featured on the Award-winning Showtime series Californicaton.
The Journey began sharing Stages with such diverse legends as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Peter Paul & Mary, BB King, Tanya Tucker, The Mavericks, Jorma Kaukenan, America, Rick Danko, Paul Butterfield, Graham Parker, Richard Thompson, Keb’ Mo’, Zac Brown and Gary US Bonds (according to his website, none of them were aware of his presence).

Guadagno has recorded 5 albums filled with Musical surprises including collaborations with Grammy Award winner Keb’ Mo’ and Dove Award Winner Steve Delopoulos. His unique interpretations of other artist works are showcased in both his recordings and live performances where he has created reverent theatrical tributes to Van Morrison – A Marvelous Night , Tom Waits – Heart of Saturday Night, John Prine – Souvenirs and Bob Dylan – BobFest, (‘NJ’s Hippest Musical Tradition’ – Rock Journalist Uncle Mike.)
