NORRISTOWN — The philanthropic arm of Tito’s Handmade Vodka recently brought some love to Norristown Farm Park, teaming up with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society to advance the health and well-being of the region, as part of their “Love, Tito’s Block to Block” program.
The horticultural society’s Green Resource Center at Norristown Farm Park is a three-acre piece of land that includes a two-acre farm, orchard, community garden, greenhouse, historic barn, and a large pavilion with onsite walk-in coolers.
The ‘Love, Tito’s”-sponsored volunteer project focused on planting new crops, replacing fruit trees in the orchard and building new garden beds to allow PHS to continue providing increased access to organically grown, fresh produce and fruit to the Norristown area community.
The Green Resource Center got an upgrade as volunteers from the two organizations worked together to plant new crops, new fruit trees and brambles in the orchard, build raised garden beds, and repair the garden’s fence line.
As part of Tito’s support, improvements will also be made to several PHS community garden sites including the 15th & Butler Community Garden, JaaNatain Garden, Warrington Community Garden and Villa Africana El Colobo Community Garden.
The “Love, Tito’s Block to Block” community garden and farm program seeks to provide fresh and healthy food to communities by working alongside local nonprofit organizations and volunteers to create green spaces, including community gardens and farms, that nurture neighborhoods and make fresh food more accessible and bring the community together, one block at a time.
The program began in 2019 in just three cities and grew to 25 cities in 2020, 28 cities in 2021, 29 cities in 2022, and this year will expand across 35+ cities nationwide
