The offshore wind debacle has Republicans cheering job losses. | Moran
Tom Moran, Star-Ledger
- To Republicans like Rep. Jeff Van Drew, last week’s gut punch to New Jersey’s offshore wind industry is a grand triumph for the common folk. “Tonight, David defeated Goliath!” he wrote, calling offshore wind “an unmitigated disaster for South Jersey’s hard-working, middle-class families.”

Are Democrats about to hand First Lady Tammy Murphy a U.S. Senate seat?
Terrence T. McDonald, NJ Monitor
- First Lady Tammy Murphy’s not-so-quiet campaign to become a U.S. senator makes me nervous. It’s not that Murphy isn’t qualified. She ticks the constitutional requirements, and by many accounts, she has the policy smarts to join the Senate without embarrassing us. “This woman is very, very bright,” Jeannine LaRue, a lobbyist and former deputy chief of staff to former Gov. Jon Corzine, told me. “I’ve sat in a room with her as she talks about policy. She knows her stuff and she cares about her stuff … She has some really deep thoughts about the direction of not only New Jersey but also where she believes the nation should be headed.”
Enough fearmongering on crime. Here are the facts | Editorial
Star-Ledger Editorial Board
- Republicans claim we’re in the grips of a violent crime wave in New Jersey because of the “soft-on-crime” policies of the Murphy administration. Chief among them, they say, is bail reform. They’re trying to create a monster here, then connect it to this policy and blame Democrats.
Daysi Calavia-Robertson, NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
- Don’t tell political consultant Alexandra Acosta that “Latinos don’t vote.” If you do, the 43-year-old de raíces Colombianas (with Colombian roots) will right away let you know she’s sick and tired of hearing that. And she will quickly inform you that if “Latinos don’t vote,” the blame lies largely on neglectful, local politicians and candidates who don’t do much — if anything at all — to earn “the Latino vote” they claim to covet.
High schooler: Political noise, preconceptions make it hard to understand Mideast war | Opinion
Olivia Fanders
- Click, click, brushhhh, brushhhh, click, click. That’s all I hear as I scroll and scroll … and scroll. There’s a burn in my eyes, a fire in my chest, an ache in my shoulders and thumbs as I stare at one post after another. They all say roughly the same thing: comments about whatever new disaster has happened in our disastrous world in the last few hours.
Commentary: Ban the (gas) blowers in Morristown, vote yes on Nov. 7
Steve Pylypchuk
- As a resident of this close-knit community that I am proud to call home, I am writing to express my support for the proposed ban on gas-powered leaf blowers in Morristown. This ban would apply during the months of January through September, specifically when leaves are generally not on the ground, and high-powered leaf blowers are unnecessary for dust and grass clippings. This initiative reflects not only a commitment to public health and environmental sustainability but also a dedication to fostering strong neighborhoods where knowing your neighbors and enjoying your front yard are central to our quality of life.

Chronic absenteeism is holding students back in Trenton
LA Parker, The Trentonian
- Cursed or cussed words rarely leave my mouth. In fact, with 35 years invested as a journalist in this town, only once did that fan-favorite four-letter word enter the public realm. My personal F-bomb connected with anger which meant the person attracting attention had managed to get me off my game. My two adult children have never heard me curse. It’s just not part of my lifestyle.
