Pennsylvania Superior Court candidate Maria Battista has been released from a hospital and is “doing well” after she was injured Sunday when a car hit her, according to her campaign.
A statement issued by the campaign Tuesday afternoon said that Battista, a Clarion County Republican, was “putting out her campaign yard signs when she was struck by an oncoming car” Sunday evening.
Battista, who was hospitalized Sunday night, was treated for “minor injuries,” including a “hair-line fracture of her clavicle,” and released Monday, the campaign said.
“She expects to be back on the campaign trail in a few days,” the statement said.
On Monday, the campaign confirmed Battista was in an accident and hospitalized after she missed the PennLive editorial board’s live-streamed discussion with Superior Court candidates that afternoon, but it would not provide any additional information, such as where the accident occurred.
Battista, who holds a law degree and is vice president of a Delaware County consulting firm, would also miss an appellate court candidates’ forum via Zoom scheduled for Tuesday evening by Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts, her campaign said Monday.
Besides Battista, the candidates for Superior Court are Westmoreland County Judge Harry Smail Jr., a Republican, and Philadelphia Judge Timika Lane and Allegheny County attorney Jill Beck, both Democrats.
The two highest vote getters will win 10-year terms on the court.
