For the second time this month, Penn State University has suspended a fraternity over hazing violations.
The school announced on Wednesday that the Psi Chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity is on indefinite suspension for hazing violations and conduct prohibited by the university’s anti-hazing policy.
In a statement, school officials said that an investigation “revealed widespread and pervasive hazing behavior occurred within the chapter over several years.” The statement did not detail exactly what kind of incidents happened or who specifically was involved.
Phi Kappa Sigma, often referred to as “The Skulls” according to the Centre Daily Times, had previously been found in violation for hazing in 2018. Penn State, however, said in the release that it had “determined that hazing persisted and attempts to address ongoing concerns were unsuccessful.”
The group had been issued an interim suspension on Sept. 27, while the investigation was being conducted.
The suspension means the fraternity is prevented from participating, attending or organizing any events, including university-wide events such as homecoming, and is not considered a sanctioned organization by Penn State.
The fraternity cannot request to have the suspension lifted until the fall of 2028.
Earlier this month, the university suspended the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity through fall 2027 after an investigation into hazing.
