Montclair Film Festival to Present Three New Films at Basie Center Cinemas. (RED BANK, NJ) — For the first time ever, the Montclair Film Festival will extend its reach into central New Jersey with the presentation of three new films at Red Bank’s Basie Center Cinemas. The films are A Little Prayer, They Shot The Piano Player, and The Teachers’ Lounge. The screenings will take place on October 25-26, 2023.
New Jersey Symphony: “Jurassic Park” with Live Score. Symphony orchestras have long graced the world with beautiful renditions of classical music. However, in the modern era, they face the challenge of attracting younger and more diverse audiences. Playing movie scores and soundtracks has emerged as an effective strategy to broaden their appeal.

Patricia Quinn Celebrates 48 Years of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and Magenta. It’s officially Spooky Season and quite possibly, the best season for a night of debauchery with “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” 48th Anniversary Spectacular Tour. On October 25th at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ, Rocky Horror fans will be treated to a screening of the original unedited film alongside a live shadowcast. Audience participation is encouraged and expected.
Out of the Jungle and Out of the New Jersey Symphony… Look out! The Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park Are on Their Way to a Theater Near You. Thump! Thump! Thump! Watch Out! They are back. The moviedom dinosaurs you loved to hate in the Jurassic Park movies are coming back, but this time dragging the New Jersey Symphony with them in a film concert version of the classic movie.
Jazz at Smoke: Steve Davis Sextet. Trombonists have been part of the jazz tradition from its earliest beginnings. In the 1920s and even earlier, Dixieland groups frequently included trombonists in the front line. When small group Dixieland jazz gave way in the 1930s to big band swing, orchestras would incorporate a trombone section, and, in fact, trombonist/bandleaders such as Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, and Stan Kenton emerged as major stars. Although trombonists became less utilized during the 1940s bebop era, the legendary trombonist J.J. Johnson embraced bebop and advanced the possibilities of the jazz trombone tradition.
2023 Rutgers Jewish Film Festival Preview. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) –The Rutgers Jewish Film Festival returns to in-theater screenings with fifteen award-winning films from Israel, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, the United States, and France. Running October 26 through November 12, the festival will present mid-Atlantic and New Jersey premieres, as well as discussions with filmmakers, actors, scholars, and other special guests. Screenings will be held in person at the Regal Cinema, North Brunswick, and the Rutgers Business School in Piscataway. Four films will be available in the virtual cinema.
OCC Repertory Theatre Company presents “Doctor Frankenstein”. (TOMS RIVER, NJ) — The Ocean County College Repertory Theatre Company presents Doctor Frankenstein, a new play by George Allison that asks the question, “What if Mary Shelley got it wrong… on purpose?” Performances take place in the Black Box Theater at the Grunin Center for the Arts from Thursday, October 26 through Sunday, November 5, 2023.
Friday, October 27, 2023 – Blues Traveler to Perform at Grunin Center. (TOMS RIVER, NJ) — Following Grammy-Award Winning Blues Traveler’s Summer tour with Big Head Todd and the Monsters, the six-time Platinum-selling rockers have their own Fall 2023 U.S. run. The seminal band will embark on a cross-country routing that kicks off in Cherry Point, NC on October 19 before culminating in the South in Nashville, TN on November 21. Locally, the band will perform at the Grunin Center for the Arts in Toms River on Friday, October 27, 2023.
Friday, October 27, 2023 – bergenPAC presents presents Tracy Morgan. (ENGLEWOOD, NJ) — Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) presents comedian Tracy Morgan on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 8:00pm. Tracy Morgan is one of the most well-respected comedians and actors in his field. Known for starring on seven seasons of NBC’s Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning 30 Rock, Morgan appeared opposite Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin as “Tracy Jordan,” the unpredictable star of “Liz Lemon’s” (Fey) hit variety show, TGS with Tracy Jordan.
Pioneer Productions presents “Lost In Yonkers” by Neil Simon. (MORRISTOWN, NJ) — Pioneer Productions is bringing Neil Simon’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning comedy, Lost in Yonkers to the stage at Fellowship Hall in the Morristown Methodist Church in downtown Morristown, NJ. The show will have six performances between October 27 and November 5, 2023. Saturday, October 28, 2023 – bergenPAC presents Piff the Magic Dragon. (ENGLEWOOD, NJ) — Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) welcomes Piff the Magic Dragon to the stage on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 8:00pm. Since breaking out on America’s Got Talent in 2015, Piff the Magic Dragon has won the heart of America through his Vegas residency, network television appearances and non-stop touring.
Saturday, October 28, 2023 – State Theatre New Jersey presents ”The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) — State Theatre New Jersey presents a screening of the cult classic movie musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00pm. In addition to the screening, from 9:00pm to 11:00pm, there is a pre-show party hosted by Rutgers’ Cabaret Theatre with live music by The Generation Gap Band, a full-service bar, and a costume contest. Saturday, October 28, 2023 – Trivia Night Fundraiser at Vivid Stage. Monday, October 30, 2023 – Croce Plays Croce 50th Anniversary. (RED BANK, NJ) — Multi-faceted singer/songwriter A.J. Croce comes to the Count Basie Center for the Arts on Monday, October 30, 2023 in celebration of two more of his father Jim Croce’s legendary albums, 1973’s Life and Times and his final release, I Got A Name, in addition to songs from You Don’t Mess Around With Jim. The concert begins at 7:30pm.

This is the first of its kind- a historical tribute to Rod Stewart and the only one to feature a former member of his band. Titled The 50th Anniversary: The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle, the day-long event will include panel discussions, interviews, a pop up exhibit, and musical performances of the songs on the album performed by regional musicians.
Saturday, October 28, 2023 – New Jersey Youth Symphony To Open 45th Season with Iconic Symphonic Works and NJ Premiere. (TRENTON, NJ) — The New Jersey Youth Symphony presents its 45th Season Opening Concert on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton. The NJYS Youth Symphony led by Helen H. Cha-Pyo and NJYS Youth Orchestra led by Simon Lipskar will perform works by Louise Farrenc, Jennifer Higdon, Giacomo Puccini, Ottorino Respighi, Jean Sibelius, and Dmitri Shostakovich. World premiere play “Child Support” explores emotional and financial repercussions of playing the ‘child support game’. (CAMDEN, NJ) — Urgent, searing and wildly inventive, the world premiere of Child Support by Desi P. Shelton uses humor and hypertheatricality to examine single parenthood and financial responsibility from the points of view of everyone impacted by a broken system. A site-specific, immersive experience set in a typical Camden row house, the action is scored by composer Jamal P. Dickerson and features a live band under the eye of musical director JoJo Streater. Barrymore Award-winner Ozzie Jones directs for an October 13 opening, with performances running through October 28 at Camden Repertory Theatre. Public previews begin September 28.
NJ Rep to Present the World Premiere of “Welcome To Matteson!”. (LONG BRANCH, NJ) — New Jersey Repertory Company (NJ Rep) will close out its successful season with the World Premiere of Welcome To Matteson! written by Inda Craig-Galván and directed by Dawn Monique Williams. It will begin performances on September 28 before its opening night on Saturday, September 30, and run through October 29, 2023.
Paper Mill Playhouse presents “The Great Gatsby”. (MILLBURN, NJ) — Paper Mill Playhouse has announced the complete cast and creative team for its world-premiere production of The Great Gatsby, based on the iconic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The highly anticipated production will play October 12-November 12, 2023 at Paper Mill Playhouse (22 Brookside Drive, Millburn). Opening night is Sunday, October 22. Center Players to Open Season with “Steel Magnolias”. (FREEHOLD, NJ) — Center Players will begin its 2023-24 season with a Signature Series production of the enduringly popular Steel Magnolias. The comedic drama will run weekends from October 13 to November 5, 2023 at Center Playhouse at 35 South Street in downtown Freehold.
The Summit Playhouse presents “The Minutes”. (SUMMIT, NJ) — The Summit Playhouse presents The Minutes by Tracy Letts from October 13-28, 2023. The Ritz Theatre Company presents “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” by August Wilson. (HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ) — The Ritz Theatre Company has an August Wilson masterwork on the docket this month, as the organization gets set to present the celebrated playwright’s third chronological entry in his “American Century Cyle,” the tour de force drama Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Directed by Darryl Thompson Jr., the production runs at The Ritz from October 13-29, 2023.
Spring Lake Theatre presents “A Chorus Line”. (SPRING LAKE, NJ) — “Step, kick, kick, and leap your way to Spring Lake Theatre for A Chorus Line, opening on Friday, October 13, and running for three weekends until October 28, 2023. With just 90 minutes of runtime and no intermission, it’s the perfect way to spend a chilly fall evening or a windy afternoon!
Mile Square Theatre presents the World Premiere of “Funny, Like An Abortion”. (HOBOKEN, NJ) — Mile Square Theatre will kick off their 20th anniversary season with the World Premiere of Funny, Like An Abortion, directed by Madsie Flynn, from October 18 through November 5, 2023. This is a hilarious political comedy about the power of friendship. In a post-Roe world, Monroe finds herself knocked up and throws herself a surprise abortion party.
Art House Productions presents “Tracy Jones”. (JERSEY CITY, NJ) — Art House Productions presents the New Jersey premiere of Stephen Kaplan’s play Tracy Jones, directed by Alex Tobey, with performances across three weekends from October 19 through November 5, 2023. The play is a touching comedy of individual connection in an increasingly busy world. The main character, Tracy Jones, rents out the back “party room” of Jones Street Bar and Grill: The Place for Wings and Things to throw a party to which she’s invited every woman in the area who is also named Tracy Jones. West Hudson Arts & Theater Company Announces Cast for “Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic”. (WEST HUDSON, NJ) — The West Hudson Arts & Theater Co (WHATCo) has announced the cast for The Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic by Matt Cox. This will be WHATCo’s first Main Stage production of 2023, running across two weekends (October 20-22 and October 26-28, 2023) at The Theater at WHATCo (15 Frank E. Chatham Community Players presents “Grand Horizons”. (CHATHAM, NJ) — The Chatham Community Players will open its 102nd Season with the hilarious and heartbreaking play, Grand Horizons by Beth Wohl from October 20 – November 4, 2023 at The Chatham Playhouse. (BASKING RIDGE, NJ) — The Lord Stirling Theater Company will perform the Agatha Christie murder mystery “A Murder Is Announced“ in the English Barn Theater at the Farmstead Arts Center, 450 King George Road, Basking Ridge, NJ. Performances run October 20-22 and October 27-29, 2023.
Luna Stage presents the World Premiere of “Westphalia”. (WEST ORANGE, NJ) — Luna Stage presents the World Premiere of Westphalia by Helen Banner from October 21-November 12, 2023. Directed by Lila Rachel Becker on Luna’s MainStage, Westphalia imagines a futuristic world in which citizenship can be bought and sold, and where artificial intelligence determines an individual’s psychological fitness to make bold life choices.
Black Box presents a Reading of Edward Albee’s “Fragments (A Sit-Around)”. Thursday, October 26, 2023 – Northern New Jersey Community Foundation to Celebrate 25th Anniversary With a Game Show Program Featuring Improv Comedy Group, Howdy Stranger. (HACKENSACK, NJ) — The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation (NNJCF) will hold its 25th Anniversary Celebration on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Aura Restaurant & Bar, located at 159 Main Street in Hackensack, New Jersey. The festivities feature a cocktail reception with appetizers, a wine/beer open bar, an interactive game-show style awards ceremony emceed by Ryan Huban from the professional improv group, Howdy Stranger, and a New Jersey trivia contest. ACME Screening Room presents 2nd Annual Lambertville Halloween Film Festival. (LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) — The Acme Screening Room will present the second annual Lambertville Halloween Film Festival from October 27-29, 2023. Friday, October 27, 2023 – Shadowcast of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” Arrives in Time for Halloween on Oct. 27. (GALLOWAY, NJ) — After 48 years of conquering Hollywood, the notorious “Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be shown on the main stage of Stockton University’s Performing Arts Center on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 8:00pm. In addition to the screening of the original and unedited film, attendees can enjoy themed drinks in the lobby prior to the show, participate in a costume contest and interact using approved props with Transylvanian Nipple Productions, a shadowcast performance troupe based in Philadelphia that will perform on stage during the screening.

Thursday, October 19, 2023 – Giants, Dragons & Unicorns on Display at Kean University. (UNION, NJ) — Giants, Dragons & Unicorns: The World of Mythic Creatures, an exhibition that traces the natural and cultural roots of some of the world’s most exciting mythic creatures, has come to Kean University to inspire and delight. It will be on display through Sunday, February 25, 2024 in the Liberty Hall Academic Center Gallery.
