A Chester County fire company is announcing the death of a volunteer responding to a call, and the injury of a second volunteer in the same vehicle.
West Whiteland Fire Company made this announcement on social media:
“It is with profound sadness The West Whiteland Fire Company announces the Line of Duty Death of Firefighter Colin Reedy.
“Firefighter Colin Reedy and Firefighter Emily Gindele were responding to an alarm on Friday night (10/20) during a heavy downpour when their vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Firefighter Reedy succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
“Firefighter Gindele is under care at Paoli Memorial Hospital in critical but stable condition.
“We ask that you keep the families of both firefighters and our members in your thoughts and prayers at this time.”
The crash was along Route 100 in Uwchlan Township about 9 p.m., officials said.
Emergency radio traffic showed that the fire company received a dispatch for a fire alarm at 8:58 p.m. to Exton Square Parkway, then the dispatch for the crash occurred at 9:05 p.m. for a car off the road in the 800 block of North Pottstown Pike, which is Route 100.
There were two unconscious inside the vehicle, according to the radio traffic.
