Kevin Eugene Golding September 8, 1943 – October 12, 2023
Kevin Eugene Golding, 80, Deerfield Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully October 12, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
Kevin was born and raised in South Orange, New Jersey. Always proud of his roots, he was a lifelong Seton Hall University Men’s Basketball fan. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows School, Columbia High School and St. Bonaventure University. In his youth, he was a member of Essex Troop, learned to golf at Lake Mohawk Country Club and a champion golfer at Maplewood Country Club. He proudly served in the New Jersey National Guard.
Kevin worked for the County of Essex and State of New Jersey for 31 years before retiring. He served as Deputy Clerk and Sergeant of Arms to the New Jersey General Assembly during his tenure. He continued in public service with the US Department of Commerce, US Census Bureau.
He shared his lifelong love for the Jersey Shore with his family. Together with his wife, they built a beautiful home in Snug Harbor, Toms River, NJ. He enjoyed many years fishing and cruising Barnegat Bay with family and friends. In recent years, he enjoyed traveling to Ireland and annual Seton Hall Pirate Blue basketball trips although the highlight remained Seattle, Washington for the NCAA Final Four in 1989. He yearned for one more run for his beloved Pirates. His time spent at Penthouse South was surrounded with much love and laughter and many dear neighbors and friends. Family visits were always a highlight of the season.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Mary (Nolan) Golding and his wife of 45 years Ellen ‘Bunny’ McEnroe Golding (2012). He is survived by his two daughters Karen and Maura (Brendan) O’Brien. He was blessed as Pop Pop to two adoring grandchildren Ellie and Kevin O’Brien who he loved beyond measure. They will miss their countless visits to Florida and all the time together making lifetime memories jumping in the bay. He also leaves his brother Cornelius (Patricia) and several nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
Visiting will be held Friday, October 20, at Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar, from 5 to 7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, at Parish of St. Theresa – St. Elizabeth of Hungary worship site 424 Lincoln Avenue, Avon by the Sea, NJ. A luncheon to celebrate his life will immediately follow. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
