Claire Ann Vitale, of Wall, NJ, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and good friend, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023, in Northern Virginia, where she had resided for the past 3 years.
She devoted her life to taking care of her late husband, Arthur Vitale, and raising their 4 children, and spent most of her time with them. She enjoyed cooking, music, the beach, old movies, watching her sons play sports when they were growing up, and, in later years, playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking big Italian meals for her family and was very good at it.
Claire was born at home in Union City, NJ, on February 24, 1939. She grew up there in a big Italian family. She was the third oldest child of 6. Upon graduating from St. Michael’s High School in Union City, where she was a majorette, she married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Vitale, who played football. Together they had four children who they raised in Jersey City and North Bergen before moving down to the Jersey Shore, where they lived in Manasquan and then Wall Township for over 50 years.
Her late husband, Arthur Vitale, passed away on April 17, 2005. She is survived by her son, Ted Vitale, formerly of Wall, NJ, and now residing in Chapel Hill, N.C., and his wife, Mary Ann Vitale, and their 3 children, her daughter, Lisa Kettell, formerly of Wall, NJ, and now residing in Fairfax, VA, and her husband Steve Kettell and their son. preceded by her son Marc Vitale, who passed away suddenly in July of 2020, and her son, Arthur Vitale and his wife Alison, formerly of Wall NJ and now residing in Chandler, TX. She had six grandchildren: Teddy Vitale, Danica Cramer, Cara Vitale, Stephen Kettell, Michael Vitale, and Grace Vitale, and four great-grandchildren: William Cramer, Evelyn Vitale, Bennett Cramer, and James Cramer. She had three sisters and two brothers and a big extended family in upstate New York and the New England area.
Claire will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her family. She will be sorely missed by all those who know her.
A viewing will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023 from 2-6 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday October 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, Manasquan, followed by the interment at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.
