Rosemary Traynor Wright died peacefully on September 19, 2023 with her family at her side.
Rosemary was born in Manhattan on August 14, 1938 to Irish immigrant parents. She grew up in Belle Harbor, Queens where she attended St. Francis Grammar School and Stella Maris High School.
She married James Hennessy with whom she had three daughters; Joann, Christine and Teresa. They later divorced.
In 1969 she met and married Charles Wright, a Navy Chief Petty Officer who was stationed at Floyd Bennett Field, NAS New York. The marriage ceremony was performed by a Navy Chaplain. Charles had six children by a previous marriage, Paul, Lorrie, Sarah, John, Diane and Amy.
Rosemary and Charles then had one son, George.
After retirement from the Navy they moved to Roselle Park, NJ. While in Roselle Park, Rosemary became a real estate agent with R. E. Scott Realtors. In succeeding years, Rosemary worked for several real estate companies, the last being Bob Grimm in Brick.
Rosemary and Charles lived 13 years in Roselle Park, then 12 years in Jersey City and finally in Brick where they still reside.
In Brick they became members of St. Dominic’s Parish where their grandchildren received the sacraments and where Rosemary taught CCD.
Also in Brick, Rosemary became a bowling enthusiast and was a member of Dover Seniors League for several years.
Having grown up near the ocean, Rosemary loved the beach, the boardwalks and the sound of waves washing on the shore.
Rosemary believes in God, loves Jesus and loves the blessed mother Mary. She believes in the power of prayer and especially the power of the Rosary.
Following is an essay by one of her granddaughters which is indicative of the love and devotion her children and grandchildren have for her.
“My Dear Grandma Rosie,
She turned 85 last month and created such a life with my Pops; they would have been married 54 years this November. A blended family that helped create 26 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, all of whom she would do anything for and prayed for daily. She was so sassy, spunky, said what she meant and meant what she said, which occasionally put the fear of God in me and caused us to bump heads once in a while… because she made me the same way. She taught me so much including how to play poker, stand up for myself, make a dirty martini, to play scrabble, and to put my family above all else. It was such an honor having her as my grandma. I’ll miss our talks, her advice, her listening ear and playing Wordle with her every day. She fought so hard to stay with us for so long, and now she is at peace and suffering no more.
We will miss you forever and love you always. Your name and memories will be spoken of for generations to come. Thank you for being you… I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to you but I never would have been.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 2-5pm at O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Rd., Brick. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday September 26, 2023, 10am at St. Dominic’s Church, Brick. Burial will follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown on Tuesday September 26, 2023.
