A new beer festival is coming just in time to make Fall something to remember.
New Ridge Brewing Co. will be hosting Roxborough’s first beer festival with the debut of Taps Under the Towers, Sept. 23. The festival will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. right outside of New Ridge Brewing in Roxborough Pocket Park and will benefit Friends of the Wissahickon.
“Taps Under the Towers is a beer fest that we have wanted to do since we opened, a little over three years ago,” said Eric Endrikat, co-owner of New Ridge Brewing. “We just wanted a good day for the neighborhood, filled with a bunch of amazing beers from our friends’ breweries. This is the first beer fest in Roxborough, and we’re really excited to be the ones to bring it here.”
The event will feature unlimited beer samples from 20 local breweries, including Attic Brewing Co., Boardroom Spirits, Brewery ARS, Brewery Techne, Carbon Copy, Chestnut Hill Brewing Co., Dock Street Brewery, Human Robot, Iron Hill Brewery, Kings Road Brewing, Love City Brewing, Other Half, Punch Buggy Brewing, Sacred Vice Brewing Co., Two Locals Brewing, Wissahickon Brewing Co., Wrong Crowd Beer and more.
Taps Under the Towers will include a whole pig roast from Green Meadow Farm and other foods, including vegetarian options as well. Music will be provided by Mitchell Street Phillbillies.
Tickets are $60 and include a 5-ounce tasting glass for unlimited pours. This event is 21 and older only, with identification. Tickets are on sale at https://www.newridgebrew.com/events.
Some of the of the beers that will be pouring include:
- Brewery ARS: Wayne’s Pale Ale, Hazy Pale Ale, 5.7%, hopped with Citra, Simcoe, and mosaic
- Brewery ARS: Respect the Fest, Octoberfest, 5.4%
- Carbon Copy: LAUD, Munich style Helles, 4.8%. A Munich-style Helles lager brewed with German Pilsner and Vienna malts and hopped with tettnang. Traditional methods of step mashing and a single decoction during the mashing process.
- Kings Road: Overnight Success, West Coast IPA, 6.8%: Wet Hop IPA featuring Strata from Crosby Hops, picked fresh and shipped overnight from Oregon. Brewed with Pilsner malt and toasted rice, dry hopped with Strata and Mosaic. Bitter, clean and exceedingly hoppy with notes of red fruit, dank berries, and mixed cups of tropical fruit.
- Kings Road – Ride the Vibe | Hazy IPA, 7.2% – IPA brewed with oats and wheat and hopped heavily with Mosaic and New Zealand Cascade. Silky mouthfeel with complex citrus, white peach, and tropical notes with a touch of pine.
- Love City – Deep Cut | Pilsner, 5.0% – Pilsner is the beer that brewers reach for. Like a musician’s favorite track, it’s a Deep Cut. This one is made with all German malt and hops. Lightly bready malt character with floral and herbal hop notes. It’s crisp, complex & crushable.
- Love City – Love Fest | Oktoberfest, 6.3% – Love Fest is our take on a traditional German-style Oktoberfest. In keeping with tradition, this beer is brewed with 100% German malt from Weyermann Malting. Notes of toasted bread, dark fruit & caramel, with a lightly sweet, clean finish.
- New Ridge Brewing Co. – Festbier | Traditional Oktoberfest, 6.4% – fresh baked bread, crisp, clean
- New Ridge Brewing Co. – Horror Business | Pumpkin Ale, 6.1% – pumpkin pie spice, vanilla bean
- New Ridge Brewing Co. – Cheap Trinkets | German Pilsner, 5.3% – crisp, orange, straw
- New Ridge Brewing Co. – Poivrette | Saison, 7.3% – melon, white pepper, lemon verbena
- New Ridge Brewing Co. – Earth to Mike | American Pale Ale, 5.8% – grapefruit, pine resin, nostalgia
- New Ridge Brewing Co. – Pineapple Wild At Heart – Pineapple Berliner Weisse, 3.1% | sour, effervescent, light
- Sacred Vice Brewing Co. – Back Trunk Britches | Dark Mild, 3.5% – Milk chocolate on the nose and tongue
- Sacred Vice Brewing Co. – Haunted Marble | Farmhouse Ale, 6.6% – A table farmhouse ale, with just pils and oats that let our house cocktail of fermenting bugs shine through with their subtle funk. Named for the marble steps in the beer garden apparently that once were in the U.S. Capitol in Philadelphia, back when they were stepped on by George Washington, or his guilty ghost
On top of the beer tasting, look for food for sale, including a whole pig roast from Green Meadow Farm with half-pound roasted pork with bread for $12, falafel (gyro or plate) for $11, pasta salad for $3, grilled corn on the cob for $4 and more.
