OXFORD >> In a football contest that was originally postponed 23 hours earlier, then endured an hour-long weather delay, followed by a second postponement on Saturday, it makes you wonder whether the Unionville-Oxford Ches-Mont American clash will ever take place.
Midway through the first quarter at Oxford, play was halted due to lightning in the area. A little over an hour later it was called for the evening. No information on a possible make-up date was announced.
Both teams had an offensive possession before the postponement, with the Hornets going three-and-out, and the ’Horns (1-1) wasting a nine-play, 40-yard-plus march that stalled at the Oxford 33. Moments after a Hornets’ punt with 5:12 left in the opening quarter the stadium was cleared.
All of Unionville’s 50 yards of offense came on the ground. Oxford (0-1) had four yards of offense when the game was called.
