Just so we’re clear, a cheesesteak egg roll includes cheese and steak — but no onions and peppers.
They are bite-sized — the type of item you could eat by the dozen.
And, by the way, if you’re interested, there’s a contest that will show people doing just that.
On Sept. 30, the famed Joey Chestnut (he of the hot-dog-eating-contest fame) will face off against other top-ranked competitive eaters (who knew there was a ranking?) in the inaugural Cheesesteak Egg Roll Eating Championship at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City.
The eating gets underway at 1 p.m. The competitors will have eight minutes to eat as many cheesesteak egg rolls as possible in the newest addition to Major League Eating’s 2023 slate of sanctioned competitions.
The stakes are high for the eaters, who seek a first-ever cheesesteak egg roll title and $5,000 in cash prizes.
The contest will take place on the Boardwalk at Resorts and will support the new food menu inside DraftKings Sportsbook at Resorts, located near the Resorts Casino Hotel Boardwalk lobby area.
The 5,000-square-foot lounge features a combination of regular and high-top tables in front of a 15-foot video wall. DraftKings Sportsbook at Resorts also features a menu of ultimate gameday eats of elevated bar food, like cheesesteak egg rolls. The sportsbook offers betting kiosks, betting windows, a VIP seating area with bottle service and an extensive list of sports betting odds.
Major League Eating host Mike Sullivan talked up the event.
“Cheesesteak egg rolls are a feat of multicultural culinary innovation, and a thrilling addition to Major League’s circuit of sanctioned competitions,” he said. “Major League Eating’s best competitors will bring their ‘A’ game to Atlantic City to set the first official world record in this discipline.”
Chestnut, the top-ranked competitive eater, set a world record by eating 23 6-inch Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches in 10 minutes.
Geoffrey Esper, the second-ranked competitive eater, holds the world record for eating 32.25 4-ounce Outlaw Egg Rolls in just eight minutes.
