SPRING LAKE — H.W. Mountz School is getting ready for the school year with multiple get togethers with both the new school principal David Layton and the current school staff, including the Popsicles with a Principal event on Aug. 31 and the annual New Student Meet and Greet on Sept. 6.
“The meet and greet for preschool, kindergarten and other new students has always been in place,” said H.W. Mountz Superintendent Stephen LaValva. “We don’t call them orientation because it isn’t formal.”
Mr. LaValva said the students are able to come to the school during set times to find their classrooms and meet with their teachers before the first day of school. Preschool students are welcomed from 9 to 9:15 a.m. Kindergarten students are welcome from 9:30 to 9:45 a.m. and new student tours for students in first through eighth grade are welcome from 10 to 10:25 a.m.
“This allows for some of the nerves and anxiety to get out of the way before the first day of school,” said Mr. LaValva.
In the preschool and kindergarten classrooms, the students will be greeted by their teachers who will read them a story, give them a snack and allow them to explore the new preschool classrooms.
