Novartis will cut approximately 100 positions from its East Hanover location in late November, according to a recent WARN notice filing.
In October 2022, Novartis announced it is evolving its approach to global clinical operations to enable faster trial recruitment and enhanced trial delivery, resulting in more timely access for patients to potential novel treatments.
As a result, Novartis said it will lay off 103 individuals on Nov. 24 at its Morris County facility as the pharmaceutical corporation reorganizes its global clinical operations and looks to create a simpler more streamlined organization.
A spokesperson for Novartis told ROI-NJ: “The new organizational structure and operating model will enable consistency and coordination across geographies and addresses an industrywide trend of increasing lifecycle and trial costs in developing new medicines. The elimination of these 103 positions in New Jersey is part of this ongoing organizational evolution.”
Employees are permitted to apply for open positions up to their separation date and will be paid regular wages during their notice period, provided they do not resign.
WARN notices normally cover mass layoffs or facility closings as part of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1989.
