Pa. Turnpike to close overnight between Morgantown and Downingtown exits

A section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike is set to close overnight this weekend for road work.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission announced Friday that the highway will be closed in both directions on Sunday from midnight to 6 a.m. between the Morgantown Interchange (Exit 298) in Berks County and the Downingtown Interchange (Exit 312) in Chester County.

The closure is necessary for the protection of motorists and workers so crews can safely remove overhead bridge beams. The bridge carries Manor Road Bridge over the turnpike in Chester County.

State police and turnpike personnel will be in the area to assist drivers. Changeable message signs will also provide information on closures and detours. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly.

Those traveling eastbound on the turnpike will be detoured to Route 10 south for 1 mile, Route 23 east for 12.5 miles, Route 100 south for 9 miles and reenter the turnpike at the Downingtown Interchange.

Those traveling westbound on the turnpike will be detoured to Route 100 north for 9 miles, Route 23 west for 12.5 miles, Route 10 north for 1 mile and reenter the turnpike at the Morgantown Interchange.
