PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Three people were shot and killed following a quadruple shooting on a North Philadelphia basketball court Friday night.
Now, family and friends are reeling from the immense tragedy.
Police identified the three victims as 21-year-old Isiah Williams, 22-year-old Nyreese Moore, and 24-year-old Naasir Folk.
Another 23-year-old man was also injured in the shooting. He is listed in critical condition at an area hospital.
Moore’s mother, Tori, spoke with Action News about the loss of her son. Though she did not want to appear on camera, she told us her son was a friendly and kind spirit with a deep love for sports.
She said he even placed for the Amateur Athletic Union, and he especially loved basketball.
Moore lost his life while playing a game on the 8th and Diamond Playground’s basketball court.
Police say five suspects fired over 50 shots on the court and then sped off.
“It’s sad. Kids are just coming to do a normal thing. They come, play basketball, go to the store,” said Harold Boswell with the Philadelphia Anti-Drug and Anti-Violence Network (PAAN).
Boswell walked through the community on Sunday to speak with the victims’ families.
“They were pretty destroyed. The mom was nonstop crying, which is understandable,” he said. “The dad, when you’re a father and your son gets killed, it takes something out of you. I can’t imagine that feeling.”
Boswell also told Action News that the community is fearful to go outside after this event.
“They shouldn’t be scared, but they are and it’s bad,” he said. “It’s a shame.”
Action News had a chance to speak with residents in the area over the weekend, and many say this sort of violence is getting out of hand.
Tori agrees, saying she wonders why the suspects took her eldest son’s life.
She also said she is lost without him, but Boswell says they’ll be by her side every step of the way.
“We want to let them know we’re here. We’re on the ground,” he said. “PAAN will be there for you. Just give us a call.”
Tori also told Action News that Moore leaves behind a 1-year-old daughter and six siblings.
If anyone has information on the shooting, they are asked to call Philadelphia police.
