A shore area newspaper man for more than 50 years died July 24, 2023. He was 94.
George began his career shortly before graduating from Pt. Pleasant Beach High School in 1947.
He was associate editor of the Ocean County Leader for 17 years after which he joined the staff at the Asbury Park Press.
He retired in 1989 as Trouble Shooter editor. George received several awards for excellence in reporting from the Federal Environmental Protection Agency, the NJ Press Association and the NJ State Nurses Association.
He was former president and life member of the Brick Township First Aid Squad, an exempt member of the Laurelton Fire Department and a former Special Police officer. He also served as president of Eye Openers, a support group for the blind and visually impaired.
George was a beloved member of the Laurelton Baptist Church, a Trustee, moderator and superintendent of the cemetery.
He was previously deceased by his wife Mary E. Brown and Diantha Mathews Brown. Surviving are his daughter, Janet E. Raymond and son John H. Greulich, both of Wall Township, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A private celebration of life was held at the Church.
