Philip D. Brisben, 70, of Sea Girt, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Raised in Sea Girt his entire life, he graduated from Manasquan High School in 1973 and worked at H.T. Halls for several years, then worked in the kitchen at The Stadium (now Fratello’s) and Joe Crine’s (now Reef & Barrel). He then joined the Sea Girt Department of Public Works and worked his way up to Superintendent, retiring in June of 2003. He was also a locally renowned bartender in the summers at the Parker House. After retiring from Public Works, he became a bartender at the Boathouse in Belmar for several years, his final job was a Crossing Guard for the Borough of Sea Girt.
Phil was very active in the community and had joined the Sea Girt Fire Company back in 1973 and became Chief in 1982-1983 and again from 1998-1990. He ran the Fire Department kitchen for two weeks during Superstorm Sandy and fed a multitude of workers and first responders.
Phil enjoyed Traveling, especially to the island of Kauai every year with his wife Karen, as well as many other places.
He was predeceased by his parents, John & Barbara Brisben and his brother Jack. Surviving is his wife Karen of 40 years, and his stepchildren Michael Thomson and his wife Denise of Andover, NJ, Jacqueline Thomson of Brielle, and Jamie Conner and her husband Dan Matthews of Spring Lake Heights, along with his step-
grandchildren Jessica and Brooke Thomson, Travis and Dylan Burke, Kieran Matthews and a great step-great grandchild Madison Burke.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
