The basic concept of Amazon’s new Hub Delivery concept is easy to grasp: If you’re someone who already makes deliveries as part of your day, why not add a few Amazon packages along the way — earning some extra money in the process?
Amazon, which launched the concept this week in New Jersey and select other states, will be looking for 2,500 hub delivery partners in 23 states by the end of the year.
Amazon officials said Hub Delivery is aimed at small businesses that have a strong understanding of local neighborhoods to deliver Amazon packages — even if they don’t normally deliver anything as part of their business model.
There is no preferred small business sector. Amazon officials said it aims to have its Hub Delivery partners come from a wide range of services that include, but are not limited to florists, grocery stores, gas stations, clothing boutiques, plumbers, coffee shops — even hair salons.
Hub Delivery represents a flexible and unique way for partners to boost their bottom line by working with their existing staff when it works best for them.
The Hub Delivery drivers will be contracted help, but the company estimates they could earn up to $27,000 in incremental income annually.
Here’s more on how Hub Delivery intends to work:
Q: What is Hub Delivery?
A: Amazon Hub Delivery is a new, flexible delivery model that partners with local businesses, like coffee shops or dry cleaners, who deliver Amazon packages in their local communities. The program is available in rural areas (like much of South Jersey) and in dense urban areas (such as Jersey City).
Q: How does Hub Delivery work?
A: Amazon Hub Delivery partners receive packages each morning and have the flexibility to make each day’s deliveries when it works best, based on their business’s operating schedule and leveraging their existing staff. On average, partners receive 30 packages a day. Deliveries are made seven days a week, with the exception of major holidays.
Q: How can I learn more about joining the program?
