Nora Mary Harrison, age 60, died peacefully in her sleep Monday morning, June 5, at The Highlands Nursing Home in Fitchburg, MA. Nora had been a resident of The Highlands since 2022. Nora was born November 24, 1962, a daughter of the late Mary T. (Kane) Harrison, 1998, and Richard Henry Harrison, 1990. Nora graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1980 and from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. Upon graduation, Nora worked at the Home for Little Wanderers in Boston, but soon broke with family tradition and left New England for Chicago in 1988. Once settled in Chicago, Nora joined TD Waterhouse where she rose to Branch Manager. Her career took Nora to Cleveland and then Princeton, NJ. Nora settled in Manasquan, New Jersey, where she bought a home, left the brokerage world, and started Critter Sitters, her pet sitting business that she owned and operated for 15 years.
Nora will be fondly remembered for her quick smile, kindness, generosity, love of animals and fierce independence streak. Nora loved her home on the Jersey Shore but always remained close with her parents, siblings, and nieces and nephews, venturing north for every special family event. Nora is survived by her devoted sister Katy Ostroff and her husband Steve of Leominster, MA; her brothers Paul Harrison of Bath, ME and Robert Harrison, and Rob’s wife Cynthia, of Hamilton, MA; her nieces Jenn Ostroff, Colleen Harrison, and Ruby and Maddie Harrison; nephews Alex Ostroff, Dan Harrison and Jake Harrison; and her very close and devoted friend Donna Harrison. Having left us much too early in life, Nora will be missed by her family and many friends.
The Harrisons and the Ostroffs would like to send out a very special thanks to the staff of The Highlands of Fitchburg and Sunrise of Leominster. Sunrise provided a loving first home in Leominster for Nora, and the Highlands staff remained dedicated to Nora’s care throughout her stay there, including hospice when her family witnessed the Highland’s extraordinary love and compassion for a cherished resident.
SERVICES: Friends are invited to join with Nora’s family on Saturday, June 24th beginning at 8:45 am at the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home in Pittsfield, MA followed by a funeral home prayer service at 9:30 am led by Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in the Harrison family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests all donations be made to The Highlands 335 Nichols Road Fitchburg, MA 01420 Attn: DSCU Activities Dept.
