SOUTH BOUND BROOK – A 22-year-old borough man has been charged with luring a 14-year-old girl to a sexual encounter and sending her obscene photos.
Javier Moreno has been charged with second-degree luring and third-degree giving obscene material to a minor, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald said. Second-degree crimes carry prison sentences of five to 10 years.
Moreno was arrested May 9 after an investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations/Computer Crimes Unit and the South Bound Brook Police Department.
The investigation began April 26 when borough police officers responded to an incident at the Maple Avenue Park where they were told that Moreno had allegedly sent obscene photos to the girl, McDonald said.
After interviewing the girl, detectives in the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit discovered that Moreno had sent the photos to the girl and tried to plan to meet at her in South Bound Brook for a sexual encounter, the prosecutor said.
