SEA GIRT — Overcast skies on Sea Girt’s boardwalk Saturday morning couldn’t deter the more than 700 community members who gathered at the pavilion to participate in the first annual Norah Elizabeth Bruther Memorial Walk and Gift Raffle Luncheon.
The fundraising organization and event was created by Piper and John Bruther with help of their family in honor of their beloved daughter Norah, who tragically lost her life to a drunk driver in May of last year. Proceeds from the event directly support the Norah Elizabeth Bruther Memorial Scholarship Fund, which works to establish endowed scholarships for Norah’s alma maters of Red Bank Catholic High School and Moravian University in Pennsylvania.
“She was just a loving, caring person, and that’s why we want to honor her memory,” Mr. Bruther said.
Norah’s parents said that approximately 720 of Norah’s family and friends, as well as supportive community members, registered to raise money for the endowment scholarship funds. According to Mr. Bruther, the event had raised over $100,000 for their first running year.
The memorial event began at Sea Girl pavilion at the top of the boardwalk, where participants were able to sign in to receive their fundraiser shirt and enjoy light refreshments, provided by local sponsors, to kick start their day before moving on to the luncheon and gift basket auction held at Parker House immediately after the walk.
