FRANKLIN (Somerset) – A 57-year-old taxi driver was shot and killed while picking up a fare on Rose Street Thursday night.
Township police responded to the area of Rose Street and Sydney Place around 9:56 p.m. on reports of a shooting, where officers found Kofi Addo, of North Brunswick, shot in his cab which came to a rest after crashing into a parked vehicle, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald said.
Addo was transported to an area trauma center where he was pronounced, McDonald said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was responding to the area of Rose Street to pick up a fare where he was confronted by the suspects while inside the cab and subsequently shot, McDonald said.

The suspects in the shooting fled on foot and the preliminary motive indicated a robbery, McDonald said.
