Linearizer Communications Group acquired by Massachusetts company for $49M

Linearizer Communications Group, a Hamilton-based photonic solutions provider, was recently acquired for $49 million by MACOM Technology Solutions Holdings, a leading supplier of semiconductor products based in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The sale was reported by Brown Moskowitz & Kallen P.C., which has long represented LCG.

LCG, founded in 1991 by Allen Katz, a professor of electrical/computer engineering at The College of New Jersey, is a nonlinear microwave predistortion specialist and high-performance photonic solutions provider to the industrial and defense markets.

Over the years, Katz has evolved his firm’s proprietary design and manufacturing techniques to produce high-performance components and subsystems for a clientele spanning North America.  For more than three decades, LCG has been a technology leader in the correction of distortion in sound communications systems, clarifying optical sound waves.

The acquisition by MACOM will enable LCG to elevate its component and subsystem design expertise in key markets.

Norman Kallen, a partner at BMK and co-chair of the firm’s Commercial Transactions practice, served as lead counsel for the transaction. He explained the buiness this way.

“Similar to how a pair of eyeglasses corrects visual distortions, a linearizer does the same for sound, bringing clarity to microwave sound systems used across a broad array of industries,” he said. “This sale optimizes the company’s ability to access new markets and ensure its continued evolution for decades ahead. MACOM intends to expand LCG’s existing manufacturing and engineering facility.”
