Mother’s Day is probably the one day all year planning ahead is the only way to go. Just try to get into a restaurant for breakfast or brunch on May 14 without some kind of reservation. Well, good luck.
Let’s just say you better have purchased a lot of flowers and built up some good will.
This year, there is expected to be about $31.7 billion spent on Mother’s Day. So here’s a little help on planning ahead:
Mother’s Day Fundraiser for Childhood Cancer, Brick & Brew Havertown, 31 E Eagle Road, Havertown: Nelson Cade III from “The Voice” will host a Mother’s Day event with good eats, music and purpose. All of the proceeds will be donated to aid families fighting childhood cancer. The rooftop will host Nelson from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Food will not be served on the rooftop during the concert.
Penns Woods Winery, 124 Beaver Valley Road, Chadds Ford. Offering a Mother’s Day full of premium wine, live music, artisanal vendors, a brunch truck and more. Brunch Truck on-site from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., live music by Ashley Sweetman Duo from 2 to 5 p.m., various local artisanal vendors on-site from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the wine tasting bar open (for adults only) from 11 to 5 p.m.
Mother’s Day Brunch at the Drexelbrook, 5400 Ferne Blvd., Drexel Hill. Offering brunch with seatings every hour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The menu includes everything from hand-carved prime rib to mac and cheese.
Mother’s Day Breakfast & Cake Walk, Graeme Park, 859 County Line Road, Horsham. Brunch will feature fresh fruit, waffles, pancakes, French toast, hash browns, assorted pastries, an omelet station and more. Afterwards, go for a tour of the Keith House or participate in a cake walk, with the chance to win a cake to bring home with you. Seatings are at 10 and 10:30 a.m.
Mother’s Day Tea & Tours, Cairnwood Estate, 1005 Cathedral Road, Bryn Athyn. Celebrate mom with a traditional tea service featuring premium Harney & Sons teas, soup du jour, seasonal salad, traditional tea and sandwiches, petit desserts, and scones with clotted cream and jams. Afterwards, enjoy a self-guided tour of the second and third floors of the Cairnwood Estate, including exhibits featuring the matriarchs of Cairnwood and a special “Antique Wedding Gowns” exhibition.
Mother’s Day Brunch at the Zoo: Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Blvd., Norristown. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet, cash bar, admission to the zoo, and a special animal meet-and-greet. Seatings are at 10 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, the 13th and 14th.
Mother’s Day Tea & Railroad Excursion, Colebrookdale Railroad, 64 S. Washington St., Boyertown. If you’re looking for a unique adventure for Mother’s Day this year, check out Colebrookdale Railroad’s tea train excursion. Tea sandwiches, pastries, scones, teas, and mimosas will be available throughout the trip. Trains leave at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and the experience lasts two hours. Choose from Colebrookdale’s lounge car, garden café car, or dining car depending on what kind of service and dining options you’d like.
Mother’s Day Brunch & Dinner, Farmer’s Daughter, 1401 Morris Road, Blue Bell. Enjoy a brunch buffet from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom or reserve a table for their prix fixe dinner menu in the restaurant from 1 to 6 p.m. Both menus include delicious options carefully created by their award-winning chefs and pastry team.
Sex & The City Mother’s Day Drag Brunch, Evil Genius Beer Co., 1727 N Front St., Philadelphia. Evil Genius Beer Co.’s brunch is at 11 a.m. Relive your favorite Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda moments with Summer of Troy Productions featuring a roster of Philly’s top drag queens. A specialty brunch menu will be available for the duration of the event as well as brunch cocktails which, naturally, includes a cosmo for this event.
Margarita’s with Mom, Al Pastor, 560 Wellington Square, Exton. Food and drink features and additions, including Huevos Rancheros, Tacos de Huevos, Breakfast burrito, Avocado Tostadas will be featured from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The outdoor margarita garden and cafe/sidewalk dining will be open for the season.
Mother’s Day Bottomless Brunch Buffet, Craft Hall, 901 N Delaware Ave., Philadelphia. Buffet with endless food and drink options from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Two hour reservation time includes bottomless mimosas, house mixed drinks, beer and wine, and the endless Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet.
Blooming Garden Pop-up Experience with Mom, Craftsman Row Saloon, 112 S. Eighth St., Philadelphia. Mom will be pretty in pink with all the blossoms, buds and pops of color — in the decor, food and drink. There’s no prettier spot in town for your queen bee than this ceiling to floor and wall to wall pop-up with a floral inspired hidden garden filled featuring lush greens, vibrant colors, pastel blooms, floral inspired foods, themed cocktails, and yes, an over-the-top Strawberry Garden milkshake. Open from noon to 9 p.m.
Mother’s Day Prime Rib Dinner, Joey Chops, 245 Lancaster Ave., Malvern. The Main Line’s hottest new boutique steakhouse will open special hours on Mother’s Day starting at 2 p.m. with a Mother’s Day Prime Rib Dinner featuring 14 oz. prime rib, whipped potatoes, grilled asparagus, au jus, horseradish for only $30 while supplies last. The full menu will also be available, including the decadent tableside cheesecake cart experience.
Mother’s Day Burger, Village Whiskey, 118 S. 20th St., Philadelphia. Village Whiskey and Chef Jose Garces will pay tribute to the moms with a very special Mother’s Day burger. Introducing the Whiskey Queen: a single smash patty, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onion, cheddar, bearnaise and a sunny egg. Pair the Queen with a Pomegranate Spritz: pomegranate, elderflower, citrus, sparkling wine.
