Wayne Adam Campbell, owner of The Mattress Place in Manasquan, New Jersey, passed away after a short and unexpected illness on April 24, 2023, at Jersey Shore Medical Center. He was surrounded by his family. Wayne had just celebrated his 70th birthday on St. Patrick’s Day.
Wayne was born and raised in New Jersey. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, PA and attended St. Louis University. He met his wife, Joanne, at his best friend’s wedding and proposed during the New York black out of 1977. They were married on April 29, 1978. They would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this year. His daughter and light of his life, Morgan, was born in 1991. He loved to attend her dance recitals.
He was a man of the 70’s and listened to Don McLean, Jackson Brown and The Eagles. He was a die-hard Giants fan and had season tickets for several years. He enjoyed going to games with his wife, Joanne, and would root for anyone playing against the Dallas Cowboys. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and played soccer in high school.
Wayne’s passion was his store, The Mattress Place, in Manasquan. He was in business for 37 years and was looking to retire in September of this year.
Wayne’s father and grandparents were born in Scotland. He embraced his Scottish heritage. Before his passing he was working with his sister on their family tree and their ancestry.
He is predeceased by his parents, Mary ‘May’ (Stalker) Campbell and Peter Campbell. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joanne Marie (Piechowiak) Campbell; his daughter, Morgan Elizabeth Campbell; his sister and brother-in-law, June (Campbell) Morgan and Richard Morgan.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, May 7th, 2023 from 2pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 5pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, NJ 07719.
