Thanks for the shout-out!
Bill Hader, of Saturday Night Live fame, showed New Jersey some love while out for a stroll in Los Angeles on Wednesday, wearing a red T-shirt emblazoned with the words “Jersey City Recreation Sports Program,” as seen in photos published by Page Six.
Hader’s rep told us the star was given the tee as a gift, but that the actor, who was born in Oklahoma and lives in Los Angeles, doesn’t know where his friend got it.
The shirt appears to be a re-creation of a vintage tee worn by Blondie member Chris Stein back in 1977. According to the brand Worn Free, which currently sells a version of the shirt, Stein found his original item in a thrift store.
Hader has no obvious ties to the Garden State. Neither does his on-again girlfriend, the stand-up comedian Ali Wong, with whom he was photographed on Wednesday.
That said, Hader did once star in a pretty funny Jersey-themed SNL skit, where he played the host of a game show called Ohhhhh!—an over-the-top fictional show “by guys from New Jersey for guys from New Jersey”—that co-starred real New Jerseyan Jon Bon Jovi. Hader even tried his hand at a New Jersey accent (you can decide for yourself how well he measures up!).
Funnily enough, Hader was photographed wearing another New Jersey-themed T-shirt last year. Henry Winkler, Hader’s co-star on the HBO show Barry, tweeted a photo of the pair last August, in which Hader was rocking a vintage-looking tee from the long-shuttered store Star Music in Morristown.
