Maryrose (Rose) Cesareo, 73, of Wall Township, New Jersey, passed away on April 6, 2023, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, after a brief illness.
Rose was born on April 16, 1949, to John J. and Eileen Schreck (née Hickey) in Newark and grew up in Livingston. She attended East Orange Catholic High School and Berkeley College, before moving to the Jersey Shore. Her fun-loving spirit was evident early in her run-ins with the nuns.
She married the love of her life, Dave, in 1971, and they raised three children, Kerry, Dan, and Kati (1983-2020) in Belmar and Wall with extended family often close. Known for her love of the beach, “Gidget” Rose enjoyed many happy times with Dave and family near the ocean, with summers spent on the beach in Belmar and Spring Lake, NJ, and recurring vacations in Hatteras, NC, and Tamarindo, Costa Rica. There are also many funny stories to tell of camping trips to Cape Hatteras and Florida in their early years together.
Her charisma, genuineness, love of laughter, and ability to talk to anyone created connections wherever she went. These attributes, combined with her artistic sensibilities and appreciation for good design made her a successful Production Manager at Entertainment on Location for many years, where she helped to produce the Philadelphia Flower Show, Welcome America, and other events.
Rose had a special gift for gathering family and friends together for holiday and birthday celebrations, including many Christmases crowded around a table, with good food, lots of laughter, and sometimes singing. She was thoughtful and generous in gift-giving to all, but especially her grandchildren.
She loved animals and traveling, she was great at gardening, and fun to shop with. She was outspoken on issues of equity and justice. She also had a prodigious vocabulary and often had multiple crossword puzzle books in play.
She instilled many of these loves and qualities in her children, as well as a spirit of adventure and confidence to pursue their dreams. She will be terribly missed by many.
Rose is survived by her loving and devoted husband, David J. Cesareo; daughter Kerry Cesareo and son-in-law, James Woodworth, and grandchildren Celia and Ian of Takoma Park, MD; son Daniel Cesareo and daughter-in-law, Cara, and grandchildren, Malia and Noah of Montclair; sister Kathleen Schreck of Wall; brother-in-law Ira Rosen of Wall; brother John Schreck and sister-in-law, Beverly, of Denville; sister Carol O’Neill and brother-in-law, Martin, of Hingham, MA; in-laws, Barry and Emily Rover of Mesa, AZ; seven beloved nieces and nephews and their partners and families; and many friends. She is predeceased by her beloved daughter, Kathryn Cesareo (2020) and sister Ellen Schreck-Rosen (2016).
A memorial service for family and close friends is planned for a future date. To send condolences please visit http://www.obrienfuneralhome.com.
